Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Range or Performance
The battery temperature sensor reports a value within plausible range yet inconsistent with engine bay or coolant temperature. Modern alternator regulation uses battery temperature to adjust charging voltage, so an offset here causes over- or undercharging.
Affected components
- Battery temperature sensor
Common causes
- High likelihood: Sensor element drifted
Possible symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
