Shift Solenoid C Stuck On

Shift solenoid C remains hydraulically active when commanded off — the corresponding clutch or band cannot release, locking out shifts that depend on it. The TCM detects the missing release via gear-ratio error or output-shaft slip.

Affected components

  • Shift solenoid c
  • Valve body

Common causes

  • High likelihood: Solenoid stuck open by debris
  • Medium likelihood: Stuck valve spool
  • Low likelihood: Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

Diagnostic notes

  • The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
