Throttle Actuator Control System Forced Below Limit RPM

The throttle actuator system has dropped engine speed below the normal limp limit because of a more serious fault. The engine may run only at idle or stall.

Affected components

  • Throttle actuator motor
  • Throttle position sensor

Common causes

  • High likelihood: Severe throttle actuator fault
  • Medium likelihood: TPS signal lost

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Reduced throttle response, possible limp mode
  • Hesitation or surging
  • Idle too high or too low

Diagnostic notes

  • The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
  • This code can affect emissions
  • A drive cycle may be required after repair
  • Reduced-power or limp mode may occur
