Engine Oil Level Sensor Circuit Intermittent/Erratic
The oil level signal jumps or drops out intermittently — usually loose contacts, vibration cracks at the sender or oil sloshing on bumpy roads. The ECM filters short transients but flags the input when the noise pattern exceeds the diagnostic limits.
Affected components
- Oil level sensor
- Sensor wiring
Common causes
- High likelihood: Loose or oil-soaked connector
- Medium likelihood: Cracked sender housing
- Low likelihood: Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
