Camshaft A Position Signal Output Circuit Low Bank 1

The buffered camshaft A position output that the engine controller sends to other modules (transmission, body, ignition module) is below the expected level on bank 1. Other modules cannot use the cam phase reference for synchronisation.

Affected components

  • Control module
  • Signal output buffer
  • Wiring harness

Common causes

  • High likelihood: Output wire shorted to ground
  • Medium likelihood: Output buffer transistor failed
  • Low likelihood: Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

Diagnostic notes

  • The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
