Gear Shift Actuator Temperature Too High

The gear shift actuator on an automated manual or DCT transmission has reached over-temperature. Frequent shifting in stop-and-go traffic overloads the actuator.

Affected components

  • Gear shift actuator
  • Tcm

Common causes

  • High likelihood: Frequent shifts in stop-and-go traffic
  • Medium likelihood: Cooling air channel blocked

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

Diagnostic notes

  • The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
