Engine Disconnect Clutch Temperature Too High
The hybrid control module measures engine disconnect clutch temperature above the safe operating threshold. Repeated slip events or insufficient cooling have heated the friction pack.
Affected components
- Engine disconnect clutch
- Transmission fluid cooler
Common causes
- High likelihood: Excessive slip during hybrid mode transitions
- Medium likelihood: Restricted transmission fluid cooler flow
Possible symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- Reduced-power or limp mode may occur
