Lost Communication with Restraints Control Module Auxiliary
A secondary or auxiliary airbag/restraints controller (e.g. for rear or curtain bags) has stopped responding. The airbag warning lamp lights up and parts of the restraint system may be disabled.
Affected components
- Auxiliary restraint module
- Can bus wiring
Common causes
- Medium likelihood: Auxiliary restraint module failed
- Low likelihood: Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
- Low likelihood: CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec
Possible symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
