Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor "A" Circuit Intermittent
The TPS signal shows intermittent dropouts that do not stay outside threshold long enough to trigger P0122/P0123. Drive-by-wire systems are sensitive to this and may briefly enter limp-home mode each time.
Affected components
- Throttle position sensor
- Throttle position sensor wiring
Common causes
- High likelihood: Loose or oxidised connector
- Medium likelihood: Sensor track worn at one spot (older potentiometer-type)
- Low likelihood: Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Possible symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Reduced throttle response, possible limp mode
- Hesitation or surging
- Idle too high or too low
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- This code can affect emissions
- A drive cycle may be required after repair
