Cold Start Diesel Intake Air Flow Control Performance
During cold-start of a diesel engine the ECU controls intake airflow (e.g. anti-shudder valve, swirl flaps) to support smooth ignition. The control loop does not deliver the expected airflow - flap stuck or position offset.
Affected components
- Intake air flow actuator a
- Intake air flow position sensor
Common causes
- High likelihood: Flap stuck due to soot
Possible symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Possible limp mode or no-start
- Multiple follow-up faults across modules
- Reset/relearn may be needed after repair
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- This code can affect emissions
