Turbo/Super Charger Bypass Valve Mechanical
The ECU detects a mechanical fault in the turbocharger or supercharger bypass valve. The valve does not open or close as commanded, causing boost-pressure errors and reduced engine response.
Affected components
- Turbo bypass valve
- Turbocharger
- Boost pressure sensor
Common causes
- High likelihood: Stuck bypass valve
- Medium likelihood: Leak in vacuum/pressure actuator
Possible symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Significant power loss / limp mode
- Possible blue or black smoke from exhaust
- Whistling or hissing sound from intake
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- This code can affect emissions
- A drive cycle may be required after repair
- Reduced-power or limp mode may occur
