Transmission Fluid Cooler Control Circuit / Open

The controller cannot drive the transmission fluid cooler control valve or fan. Active cooling cannot be commanded so transmission fluid temperature can rise during heavy use.

Affected components

  • Trans fluid cooler valve
  • Cooler fan
  • Wiring harness

Common causes

  • High likelihood: Open coil in cooler control solenoid
  • Medium likelihood: Broken control wire

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
