Engine Disconnect Clutch Excessive Slippage
The hybrid control module detects more slip across the engine disconnect clutch than the calibration allows for the requested torque transfer. Friction surfaces may be glazed or contaminated.
Affected components
- Engine disconnect clutch
- Transmission fluid
Common causes
- High likelihood: Friction surfaces glazed by overheating
- Medium likelihood: Fluid contaminated with friction modifiers off spec
Possible symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- Reduced-power or limp mode may occur
