Invalid Data Received from Wheel Speed Sensor (Rear, Driver Side)
ABS receives implausible rear-driver wheel speed data. ESP and traction control are deactivated. Wheel-speed signals feed ABS, ESC, traction control, transmission and odometer — a single dropped signal disables all of these safety functions until repaired.
Affected components
- Wheel speed sensor rl
Common causes
- High likelihood: Excessive air gap or contaminated tone ring
- Low likelihood: Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
- Low likelihood: CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec
Possible symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
