Front Axle Disconnect
The 4WD control module has detected a fault on the front axle disconnect actuator. On part-time AWD vehicles this actuator decouples the front axle for fuel saving, and a fault prevents engagement or disengagement of front-wheel drive.
Affected components
- Front axle disconnect actuator
- Awd control module
- Axle position switch
Common causes
- High likelihood: Disconnect actuator failed (motor or solenoid)
- Medium likelihood: Wiring or connector fault
- Low likelihood: Axle position switch failed
Possible symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- ESC/stability control deactivated
- Possible reduced brake assist
- Speedometer may behave erratically
