"B" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced (Bank 1)

Exhaust camshaft position bank 1 over-advanced or system performance — the actual cam phase exceeds the commanded value. Usually caused by a stuck-open oil control valve, low oil pressure, sludged passages, or a worn cam phaser. Confirm with a scan tool live data: command 0° advance and watch actual.

  • High likelihood: Oil control valve stuck (advance)
  • Medium likelihood: Sludge in VVT oil passages

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine light on
