The TCM detects that a commanded shift between gears did not occur within the expected time and quality window. Slip rates or speed ratios remain implausible during shift.
Affected components

Common causes
- High likelihood: Low or degraded transmission fluid
- High likelihood: Shift solenoid stuck or worn
- Medium likelihood: Clutch pack wear
Possible symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on

- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- Reduced-power or limp mode may occur
