Transmission Component Slipping
The TCM detects slipping in a clutch or band element. Output speed does not match the calculated value for the engaged gear ratio.
Affected components
- Clutch packs
- Transmission
Common causes
- High likelihood: Clutch friction surfaces worn
- Medium likelihood: Hydraulic pressure too low
Possible symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- Reduced-power or limp mode may occur
