Turbo/Super Charger Boost System Performance

Boost pressure does not match the requested target during normal operation. The deviation between commanded and measured boost exceeds the calibrated tolerance, often due to leaks, sticking actuators or sensor errors.

Affected components

  • Turbocharger
  • Boost pressure sensor
  • Vnt actuator
  • Charge air pipe

Common causes

  • High likelihood: Charge-air leak
  • High likelihood: VNT vanes sticking with soot
  • Medium likelihood: Boost pressure sensor drift

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Significant power loss / limp mode
  • Possible blue or black smoke from exhaust
  • Whistling or hissing sound from intake
