Transmission Range Select Motor Control Circuit

A general fault in the transmission range select motor control circuit. The motor that physically moves the gear range selector (P-R-N-D) does not respond correctly.

Affected components

  • Range select motor
  • Control module
  • Wiring harness

Common causes

  • High likelihood: Motor winding open or shorted
  • Medium likelihood: Open or shorted control wire

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
