Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Control Circuit Stuck On

The TCC pressure control solenoid stays in the activated state when commanded off. TCC stays locked which can stall the engine on low-speed stops.

Affected components

Common causes

  • High likelihood: Solenoid spool stuck in open position
  • Medium likelihood: TCM output driver stuck on
  • Low likelihood: Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

Diagnostic notes

  • The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
  • A drive cycle may be required after repair
