Engine Disconnect Clutch Actuator Control Circuit Driver Current/Temperature Too High

The output driver for the engine disconnect clutch actuator reports current or junction temperature above its protection threshold. Sustained high load on the actuator or short-circuit fault.

Affected components

  • Engine disconnect clutch actuator
  • Hybrid control module

Common causes

  • High likelihood: Short to ground in actuator wiring
  • Medium likelihood: Actuator mechanically jammed — high stall current

Possible symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

Diagnostic notes

  • The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
  • Reduced-power or limp mode may occur
