Software Incompatibility with Powertrain Control Module
A control module has detected that its software version does not match the engine/powertrain ECU. Typically after a partial flash, mismatched coding, or fitting a used ECM from a different vehicle.
Affected components
- Ecm
- Control module
Common causes
- High likelihood: ECM software/calibration mismatch
- Medium likelihood: Used ECM fitted from different vehicle
- Low likelihood: Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
Possible symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
Diagnostic notes
- The malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate
- Reduced-power or limp mode may occur
